Blog 21: Final Blog Post

I have been fortunate enough to have language all of my life, so I have a hard time imagining what life would be like without it. To me language is everything; it helps me figure out which direction to go when I’m driving, helps me to know which building I am going into, helps me create meaningful relationships. In the past it has taught me to speak, read, give names to things. It’s something that I do not give much thought to but that has grown increasingly important in my life. I see language as the silent hero in my life. But after listening to this podcast it has me thinking about other people who don’t have the capability for learning or understanding language. They still survive and they still have lives, they still thrive in their environment with little to no language at all. It is very interesting to me to learn the perspectives of those who have to learn about and navigate the world in such a vastly different way. Knowing this information, I would like to try to apply the role of language in my life in a different way. In the future I would like to not necessarily rely on language less, but rather take in the context that language presents.

  1. I was so interested to read your reflection. I love your nuanced take. Language and silence both play huge roles in our lives and/or experiences with the world. Thank you for sharing.
