Coach Michael Lichten

Michael Lichten is the head coach and founder of the University of New England Football program. He started the Football Program from scratch and has been working diligently ever since to create a winning environment while also cultivating a more adept community of individuals as well. As a coach, Mike Lichten takes initiative in order to provide his players with unique opportunities for betterment and self-improvement. He is well-versed with the resources available around campus, and has even been a part of developing his own including a study hall session where players are required to attend a certain number of hours per week which can help immensely in improving academics for players and the overall team as well placing a focus on being a better student at all times. Coach Licthen states that among the most important things to do when entering college is to “Come into college with an open mind and be willing to try new things, for example Attending guest lecturers and hearing outside perspectives on the world is an essential piece to developing as a young person.” Here at UNE there are a bunch of opportunities at the disposal for students to use, however, it ultimately falls into the students hands on if we use them or not. Just this past semester, Coach Lichten supported me in studying abroad and it was a life changing experience for me. Over the years, Coach Lichten has coached hundreds of players and students and when asked about his experience and what incoming students need to avoid doing, “Poor time management and not having the ability to put pride aside and ask for assistance is what plagues young students.” Coach believes that getting an education is an investment in yourself and it must be a top priority. He also thinks that it is essential for students to learn the proper way to interact with professors.
