Brady Lamontagne is currently a junior here at the University of New England studying Medical Biology. Brad played football for his first two years here at the university, and now spends his free time in the gym working out everyday. In his interview he stressed the importance of peer relationships around campus. Here at UNE we have a relatively small population of students which leads to a close knit community. One of the things that Brady mentioned in our interview is the fact that “ Many of the students here are very kind and approachable making it easy for me to talk to them.” Entering into college can be a scary thing especially if you feel alone. Here at UNE the students tend to be laid back and very easy to talk to. Students usually know the ins and outs of the college world and so Brady believes that as he has gotten older fellow students have been very helpful throughout his life here on campus whether that be them giving him directions or even just having people to hang out with to take your mind off of school. Freshman year, however, it was actually his Resident Advisor who he considered to be the most helpful person around campus. One of the points that Brady stated which I think is very important to know is “It was important for me in understanding that it is okay to ask for help when I needed it. People were not here to judge me, instead they were here to help me better myself and better understand the way college worked.” Freshman RA’s are fellow (typically upperclassmen) students who are trained in a lot of different areas to help with the transition from highschool to college. They are a prime resource for all freshmen to ask for help, support, guidance during your years here at UNE. Brady’s most important advice for incoming freshmen was, “The most important thing is to come with a good work ethic, and be determined to succeed. Those who come ready for college and with an open mind and are adaptable will have an amazing experience.”
