Blog 16: Naysayer Paragraph

At this point I would like to introduce some objections that people may feel about incorporating the arts into science when solving major problems. While up until now I have explored the benefits to pairing the two fields together, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any complexities or complications that would arise in this situation. Some people may argue that artists having a seat at the science table may lead to less productive outcomes as the solutions they come up with may be too unrealistic or improbable. Others may argue that there is no need for artistic outlook as they believe the way things are working now is just fine. On one hand, having to integrate the vastly different concepts right away may prove to be challenging, on the other hand that’s not the way the idea has to be approached. Smaller steps can be taken to integrate art and science to work together, for example starting in schools. As Ma suggests, adding arts to STEM to make STEAM can be a productive first step to accomplish this bigger goal. Having art and science work in equilibrium can lead to more productivity and solve more problems than just relying on logic and reasoning.
